The general secretary of the Kosovo Basketball Federation, Elvira Dushku, has announced that 3×3 basketball is becoming one of the main long-term projects of the federation, with the aim of serious preparation for the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030”.
She emphasized that work has already started on the reconstruction and consolidation of the team, as well as the identification of the right players and coaches for this discipline. According to her, the objective is to create a competitive team within four years that can also aim for medals in Prishtina 2030.
“We are thinking more strategically about 3×3 basketball, considering that in the Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030” it will be one of the most important sports. So we’re starting to revamp the team until we find the best possible module to create a team, and then we’re going to invest the next four years in getting that team to show up and aim for one of the medals at Prishtina 2030.“.”, said Dushku.
Dushku has also announced that the Basketball Federation has engaged two coaches, who are working on identifying players and building the 3×3 project.
“The Basketball Federation has already hired two coaches in the office of the Basketball Federation. It is about the two coaches of Representative A, both men and women, Bujar Locin and Lorik Kllokoqin, together with them and the head of the Association of Coaches, Albert Sylejmanin, we are working in that direction to identify both the coaches and the players in 3×3, so that then those who are right, we can invest four years for the appearance in Prishtina 2030′, but at the same time starting from ‘Taranto 2026’, the Mediterranean Games, is a possibility, FIBA has opened an opportunity for countries that win the Mediterranean Games, to have easier access to the Olympic Games“, added Dushku.
In the end, Dushku requested institutional support from the Kosovo Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sports, stressing that the 2026-2030 strategy is the main way to achieve great results in the international basketball scene.
“If we want to reach bigger competitions, more major competitions at the Olympic level, then of course for the Basketball Federation, 5×5 basketball is a little more difficult, and for this reason we have drawn up a 3×3 basketball strategy 2026-2030, where we are waiting for the support of the Olympic Committee and the Ministry to give us strong work in that direction for the next four years, because this is the right way to be able to participate with basketball in major competitions such as the Olympic Games.“, Dushku said at the end.
“Prishtina 2030” is expected to be a historic moment for Kosovo, as for the first time the country will host this prestigious event. The organization of the Mediterranean Games in Pristina is seen as a great opportunity for promoting sports, developing infrastructure and increasing the level of local competitions, placing Kosovo in the center of international sports attention, KosovaPress cites.
