Fatal mistake, we will not allow ourselves to be forced into peace, the Kremlin told Zelensky

“Putin has violated so many international norms and rules that he will not stop himself. Russia can only be forced to peace, and that is exactly what is needed, to force Russia to peace,” Zelenskyi said on Tuesday at a meeting of the UN Security Council in New York.

Peskov responded by announcing that Russia will not be forced into peace. “The attitude of trying to force Russia to make peace is an absolutely fatal mistake. It is not possible to force Russia to make peace,” AP quoted the Kremlin spokesman as saying on Wednesday.

“It is a deeply mistaken idea that will inevitably have consequences for the Kyiv regime,” he added, according to Reuters.

While Moscow has, among other things, territorial demands, Kyiv insists that Russia must leave the entire Ukrainian territory. “Russia wants peace,” Peskov said, “but on the condition of securing the foundations of its security and achieving its goals” in the offensive in Ukraine.

He added that the dynamics on the battlefield in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine appear positive for the Russian side. Russian forces in the east of Ukraine, according to Moscow, have recently accelerated their progress and occupied several towns and villages. Currently, the fighting continues for Vuhledar, which until now was controlled by Ukraine. Before the war, around 14,000 people lived there.
