In the cemetery of the village of Hajvali, mortal remains have been found that are suspected to belong to persons who disappeared during the last war in Kosovo.
The Kosovo Police have confirmed that excavations continue in search of other skeletal remains. The remains are believed to belong to at least 3 people.
“In coordination with the Institute of Forensic Medicine and the Governmental Commission for Missing Persons, units of the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes have carried out the order of the Basic Court in Pristina for excavations in the Hajvali village cemetery. So far, skeletal remains have been found that are suspected to belong to at least three persons who disappeared during the war of 1998-1999,” the official announcement states.
The remains were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for examination and identification through forensic analysis.
According to official data, during the 1998-1999 war in Kosovo, around 13,000 people were killed, while over 1,500 are still missing.
