Giovanni Pietro Barbano, the head of the EULEX Mission in Kosovo, has reacted to the X platform to attacks and interference with judges and prosecutors, calling them unacceptable.
He emphasized that judicial independence is essential for the rule of law and that personal attacks on judges and prosecutors performing their duties are intolerable.
This statement comes after the comments of the Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, who said the Constitutional Court is acting as a political shadow of the opposition against Vetevendosje, mentioning that five of its seven judges were elected in 2018, when the Serbian PAN and List were in power.
Also, Vetevendosje Vice President Glauk Konjufca said the Constitutional Court is in front of an important ruling.
EULEX, according to its mandate, monitors the justice system in Kosovo, but does not conduct direct investigations. Barbano has called for any concerns regarding court cases to the relevant authorities such as the Prosecutor’s Office, the Kosovo Police or the Kosovo Police Inspectorate.
