Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has stated that immediately after the certification of the results of the early elections that were held on June 7, communications with political parties will begin with the aim of reaching an agreement on the formation of new institutions.
Kosovo held its third parliamentary election in 16 months and now has to elect a new President. According to the last verdict of the Constitutional Court, this process should start immediately after the constitution of the Assembly. The Central Election Commission plans to certify the results of the June 7 parliamentary elections by July 6.
According to the country’s Constitution, the constitutive session must be held within 30 days from the date of the official announcement of the election results. From the data published by the CEC, the Vetëvendosje Movement won the elections by getting 53 deputies, the PDK secured 22, the LDK 18 and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo 7 seats in the new Assembly.
For the election of the president, an issue for which the country went to early elections, an agreement between the political parties is needed, since the presence of at least 80 deputies is required in the first two rounds of voting.
Earlier, the vice-president of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lutfi Haziri, declared that his party is ready for cooperation with the Vetëvendosje Movement to create institutional stability in the country.
