Elected Mufti of Xanthi, Mustafa Trampa, suggested establishing a “Balkan Research Center” based in Edirne in order to conduct comprehensive and holistic scientific studies on the Balkans.
The “Our Own Sky, Balkan Scholars Meeting-2” program, organized by the Islamic Scholars Foundation and hosted by the Governorship in Edirne, continued with its first day sessions.
In his speech at the program, Trampa stated that although there are many articles about Western Thrace, there are not enough books.
Stating that scientific studies on Western Thrace are limited, Trampa emphasized that the publications on these subjects in recent years are satisfactory, but should be increased further.
Explaining that a research center could be established in Edirne to comprehensively study Western Thrace and the Balkans, Trampa said:
“My suggestion on this issue is to establish a ‘Balkan Studies Center’ in Edirne, similar to the Islamic Research Center (ISAM) in Istanbul. There is a center at Trakya University, but this should be in a slightly different format. By establishing such a center, the literature on the Balkans needs to be re-evaluated, recorded and digitized. If we can establish such an institution, researchers from every country will enter there. But it will be the people of that country. Because experiencing and writing about something is different from reading and writing from books. The roof of such a center is “The work to be done under it will be very valuable. Our homeland welcomes us in every aspect and by putting such a thing into practice, we can leave a very serious work for the Balkan countries.”
Trampa also thanked Edirne Governor Yunus Sezer for his work for the Balkans.
The program will end tomorrow.
