Arion Sulo in “Trialog”: Kurti knew the impossibility, but hoped for alliances. Now it is up to the opposition to play differently

According to him, the country is in an institutional impasse that is not only limited to the impossibility of building a government cabinet, but also extends to the election of the President of the Republic and the possibility of a runoff or new elections.

Analyst Arion Sulo provided a clear analysis of the latest developments, noting that Kurti has known for a long time that he did not have the necessary numbers to build a functional government, but hoped that he would be close to the necessary threshold through possible alliances.

According to Sulos, Sunday’s failure to form a government was not unexpected.

“It was very clear that Albin Kurti had no chance to build a government after Sunday’s failure”he said, adding that Kurti himself has admitted in a later speech that the problems are not limited to the government.

“Not only the government is a problem, but the runoff, the new elections and the election of the head of state are also a problem”Sulo quoted from the statement of the acting prime minister.

He recalled that 80 mandates are needed for the election of the President of the Republic, while “no party today has 61 mandates to build the government, no more 80 to elect the president”.

Sulo argued that Kurti was clear about this situation even before the general elections on February 9, but hoped that he would reach the necessary threshold in cooperation with an ally. “This was not possible and the coalition failed, both with the AK and with the LDK”he said.

In conclusion, Sulo emphasized that now it is the turn of the opposition to enter the game and act differently from Kurti.

“It is now up to the opposition to get into the game and play differently from Mr. Kurti”he concluded, implying that the political scene of Kosovo is entering a new phase.
