The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, continues today (October 1) her tour in the Western Balkans with a visit to Kosovo, after her stay in Albania. During his stay in Pristina, von der Leyen is expected to hold meetings with the acting president of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, as well as with Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

According to the press release, the meeting with Haxhiu is scheduled to start at 12:30, at the premises of the Presidency of Kosovo. The European perspective of Kosovo, the next steps in the process of integration into the European Union, as well as support through the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans are expected to be at the center of the visit.

The visit to Kosovo is part of a regional tour of the president of the European Commission in the Western Balkans. After Pristina, von der Leyen is expected to travel to Podgorica, while the tour will conclude on October 2 in Skopje.

During her visit to Albania, von der Leyen assessed the country’s progress on the path to membership in the European Union. At the joint media conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana, she stated that Albania’s membership would strengthen both the country and the European Union. The President of the European Commission stressed, however, that Albania still has work ahead and that further reforms are required in all the open chapters of the negotiations.
