He stole one of the Někras’ cubs from the zoo in Yaroslavl on September 27. “Early in the morning, an unknown person entered the territory of the local zoo and stole a baby kangaroo named Kroša,” the Russian newspaper quotes state representative Irina Volkova as saying.
“Three days later, I recorded a similar case in the Kaluga region, where two baby kangaroos went missing,” she added. In the second case, there was a theft in the private bird park “Vrabčáci” in the Žukovský district. The report was received by the local police department on September 30. Both cases were investigated separately by the authorities, but now they will be combined into one proceeding, Kommersant reported.
One of the cubs stolen in the Kaluga region died, the other, which according to available information was very small, about the size of a rabbit, is now being cared for by the zoological garden workers in Yaroslavl.
“One of the stolen animals arrived at the zoo in Yaroslavl. Currently, the baby kangaroo is in a satisfactory condition and under the constant control of veterinarians,” said Nikolai Potapov, deputy director of the zoo.
