A Russian drone was shot down in Romania

According to a preliminary investigation, the drone landed on Romanian territory in April, when the Russian army was attacking the Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube River, which represents the natural border between the Ukrainian Odesa region and the Romanian Tulcea county. According to Reuters, it was a Russian drone.

Its wreckage was found by local residents on Tuesday, according to the Digi24 station. The Ministry of Defense decided to dispose of it because the debris contained an unexploded charge.

“The charge was detonated in a controlled manner on the spot on the morning of June 30 at a specially prepared site by a team of specialists from the Ministry of National Defense, following all the procedures established for these situations and fully ensuring the safety of citizens and specialists who carried out the operation,” the station quotes the ministry’s statement.

According to him, since the beginning of the aggressive Russian war against Ukraine, the local authorities have recorded more than a hundred attacks on targets near the border with Romania. A number of them were headed for Ukrainian port cities such as Izmail or Chornomorsk.

“In this context, 29 unauthorized intrusions of Russian drones into the national airspace were reported, and in approximately 50 cases, drones or their fragments were identified on the territory of Romania,” the ministry said. In dozens of cases, alliance fighters had to take off.
