A man in Prague followed a ten-year-old girl from the subway. He dragged her into the basement and wanted to rape her

“The girl started screaming and the neighbors heard this scream. They had previously noticed that the suspicious man ran into the house after the girl and left with her in the elevator. That was strange to the neighbors, that’s why they listened to what was going to happen. At the moment when they heard a child’s scream from the basement, one of them ran out of the apartment and ran to save the girl,” police spokesman Jan Daněk described the dramatic moments.

After a brief tug-of-war between the rescuer and the perpetrator, the girl took advantage of the situation and ran away to the safety of the apartment. The attacker then managed to escape from the scene.

“It was immediately clear that this was a suspicion of a serious crime, and that’s why detectives from the homicide department also started working on the case. It was established that the suspicious man already followed the girl in the subway, where he picked her up, and then took her by bus to the place where she lives, Daněk said.

According to him, criminal investigators managed to find out the identity of the suspect within a few hours. A 38-year-old man originally from the Central Bohemia region was arrested by criminal investigators at a hostel in Prague 4.

“Although he did not cooperate with the criminal investigators during the interrogation, criminal proceedings were initiated against him for the crime of attempted rape. If convicted, he faces a prison sentence of up to 12 years, given that the act was committed against a child. At the same time, they filed a motion to take him into custody, which the court accepted,” the spokesman added.

The police cannot rule out that it was an isolated attack, so they are asking the public for help. “So that people who have experienced a similar event or have heard about a similar thing from someone, for example,” said Daněk.
