“We received the report about the fire in the hall in Strojírenská street in Havlíčková Brod after four o’clock in the afternoon,” said Petra Musilová, the spokeswoman for the fire department.
“Plastic products and cardboard are burning in a hall measuring approximately 40 by 60 meters,” she described. Firefighters declared the second stage of the fire alarm, according to initial information, the fire did not cause any injuries.
Even in the evening hours, firefighters were still working. “The property damage caused by the fire was preliminarily estimated at 350 million crowns, it concerns the hall and the stored material,” said Musilová.
The inhabitants of the city could remain calm despite the dramatic scenes and thick black smoke. “It is most likely not a fire involving dangerous chemical substances, however, just to be sure, a specialized unit from Lázní Bohdaneč is heading here,” mayor Zbyněk Stejskal (ODS) commented on the situation on social media.
“The good news is that the wind is also helping the situation, and according to current information, the fallout is not dangerous for residents. The units will most likely be on site fighting until the morning,” added the mayor.
According to the spokeswoman, the investigation into the cause of the fire will continue on Friday morning. “I don’t have the results from the laboratory yet,” added Musilová on Friday morning.
