A bear attacked in Slovakia, an injured man ended up in hospital

The TASR agency, referring to the mayor of the village Branislav Štrby, informed that the bear attack took place in the locality under Havraní skála. The mayor stated that he informed all emergency services about the bear attack. The management of the village called on the residents not to enter the area outside the built-up part of the village until further notice to avoid being attacked by a bear.

“We sent a rescue helicopter to the injured man. The 36-year-old patient was transported to a hospital in Žilina with superficial neck injuries,” the agency quoted Petra Klimešová, spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Service of the Slovak Republic, as saying.

In mid-April, a bear attacked a man during a morning run in Banská Bystrica on Urpín hill. The man suffered an injury in the chest area.

Last year, there were 19 brown bear attacks on humans in Slovakia. There was one death and 16 people were injured during the attacks of the biggest Slovak beast. In 2025, people sent two thousand complaints about problems with bears to Slovak authorities.

In 2025, almost 200 bears were shot in Slovakia, yet the largest number of bear attacks on humans occurred last year. According to estimates, about 1,300 bears live in Slovakia.
