Albin Kurti meetings in New York requires strengthening US relations and international partners

Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, is holding high-level meetings while attending the UN General Assembly in New York.

He has begun talks with Republican Congressman Keith Self, where they discussed the Kosovo-US Cooperation in Defense and Security, as well as the role of the Albanian Diaspora.

Kurti spoke about investments in the Kosovo Security Force and the removal of customs tariffs on US products.

The prime minister is trying to strengthen bilateral relations and promote Kosovo as a destination for foreign investment.

He is also expected to meet with the Albanian community in the US and with representatives of the diaspora. His visit comes after the US suspension of strategic dialogue with Kosovo due to recent tensions.

The US Embassy in Pristina criticized the government’s actions in office as the reason for increasing instability in the country.

Kurti admitted that there are differences with the US, but denied the breakdown of relations. He said the disputes are mainly related to access to Serbia and illegal structures there.

President Vjosa Osmani, who held meetings with the US Secretary of State and EU representative, is also in New York.

Osman asked the EU to remove punitive measures against Kosovo. Meetings are part of efforts to deepen international cooperation and address the country’s political and economic challenges.
