A woman was killed on Sunday evening in Vitomirica, Peja, while the suspect is her brother-in-law. According to the Kosovo Police, the suspect is on the run, the Kosovo Police announced, reports KosovaPress.
After the murder, the letter that the victim, Arlinda Zekaj, had sent to the Prosecutor’s Office on October 22, 2026, was also published. In it, she demanded urgent measures, citing institutional failures in the handling of her case.
“I hope that the day will not come when you and the responsible institutions will be forced to account only after my life has been taken. Now I understand why there are so many murders! The woman with the law in hand killed the woman – not the husband! Painful to the point!”, the now deceased wrote, among other things.
The Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Peja has confirmed the acceptance of the complaint by the deceased, with the initials AZ. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, she had requested actions against the officials of the responsible institutions, including the issue of the execution of a court decision.
The prosecution announced that the chief prosecutor had ordered the registration of the appeal for treatment by the competent prosecutor. The claims would be assessed in terms of criminal liability for the offense “Misuse of official position or authority”.
According to the announcement, the submission was forwarded to the Police and the Basic Court in Peja for urgent treatment. It was also sent to the Directorate for Social Welfare and the Center for Social Work.
These institutions were requested to examine the claims and verify the possible omissions of the relevant officials.
Regarding the court decision regarding the equal use of the house, the Prosecutor’s Office said that it had been executed. According to her, the execution was done by the guardian prosecutor, in cooperation with the Kosovo Police.
The murder was preceded by a report of domestic violence. The police announced that on Sunday, around 19:00, they were informed about the case in Vitomirica.
The victim was accompanied to the police station and interviewed. Meanwhile, her husband was arrested, interviewed and detained for 48 hours.
“The victim, of her own volition, was sent to her home in the village of Vitomirica,” the police announcement states.
Around 21:10, the Police received information that she was found without signs of life. According to the initial data, it is suspected that the death came from blows with a strong tool.
The state prosecutor also came to the scene. The police have announced that they are taking action to clarify the circumstances and arrest the suspect.
Lawyer Adelina Hoxha also reacted to this. She has accused the state of killing the woman in Vitomirica. “A woman who begged me to do everything because she doesn’t need life without her son… tonight she was killed by her brother-in-law with an ax… But not ARLINDA. THE STATE KILLED. All the evidence for you tomorrow”, wrote Hoxha on Facebook.
