The Deputy of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Besnik Tahiri stated that the change in the law does not invalidate the Specialized Chambers in The Hague, thus responding to the statements of an EU spokesperson who told Radio Free Europe on Wednesday that the law approved by the Assembly contradicts Kosovo’s international obligations.
“The limitation has to do with the right of the Assembly of Kosovo. This limitation does not undo, but improves an institution which aims to have justice. The decision is omnipotent, Kosovo continues its journey, its institutional and political goals“, said Tahiri
LDK Vice President Lutfi Haziri emphasized that through coordination and cooperation, ways can be found to implement the law. He argued that his party’s non-participation in voting on the changes was a political act, not opposition to the initiative.
“The Specialized Chambers have emerged as a product and vote of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo. There is a division of sovereignty and justice, but this can be fixed with coordination and cooperation and ways to apply the law can be found.“
Earlier it was PDK, the party that took the initiative to change the law on the Special Court, which opposed the reaction from Brussels, saying that the legislation does not violate Kosovo’s international obligations. “The initiative remains faithful to the obligations for which that court was created” – said deputy Parparim Gruda. The amendments to the law on Specialized Chambers were approved by the Assembly of Kosovo on the evening of October 6 with 88 votes in favor.
