Thrace and Balkan municipalities, meeting in Tekirdağ, agreed on joint projects

A cooperation meeting was held in Tekirdağ in order to strengthen the historical and cultural ties between Thrace and the Balkans at the local government level. Officials of the Thrace Municipalities Union, RAM Thrace Municipalities Union and the Romanian Southeastern Region Municipalities Union attended the meeting.

At the meeting, improving cooperation between local governments in Türkiye, Bulgaria and Romania, increasing cross-border joint projects and strengthening knowledge and experience sharing between municipalities were discussed.

Joint projects are on the agenda

Thrace Municipalities Union and Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Candan Yüceer stated that the meeting was important for regional development and that they decided to carry out joint studies in the fields of environmental protection, smart urbanism, tourism and renewable energy.

Yüceer said, “We are building a strong vision that virtually eliminates the geographical boundaries between us. I believe that we will provide much more effective, modern and sustainable services to our people with common sense, sincerity and joint projects.” he said.

The establishment of new sister city ties in order to create joint working groups and improve relations between member municipalities was also on the agenda at the meeting.

RAM Thrace Municipalities Union and Sliven Mayor Stefan Nikolov Radev stated that the bridges of friendship between the three countries will be strengthened with the cooperation of local governments.

Serif Cirjali, Deputy Chairman of the Union of Municipalities of the Southeastern Region of Romania, stated that the meetings in Tekirdağ will take the cooperation between Romania and Thrace to a new dimension, and that they want to turn friendship ties into permanent services with joint working groups and international fund-supported projects.
