Nine people have been arrested in Zubin Potok, under the suspicion of committing the criminal offense “War crimes against the civilian population”.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of the morning by the Kosovo Police under the code name “File 23”.
According to the police, the operation is related to the case known as “Group of intellectuals”, where 23 people disappeared during the 1999 war, whose mortal remains were allegedly found in three mass cemeteries in the village of Kalludër and Jabukë of Zubin Potok.
On September 19, after the DNA analysis results, Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced that it was confirmed that the remains of three of the victims found in those mass graves belonged to the “Group of Intellectuals”.
This group consisted mainly of citizens from Skenderaj and Mitrovica, who, according to the authorities in Kosovo, were abducted and forcibly disappeared on April 19, 1999 by Serbian forces.
“As a result of this operation, nine (9) people suspected of committing the criminal offense of ‘War crimes against the civilian population’ have been arrested,” the announcement states.
According to the Institute of Crimes Committed During the War in Kosovo, 1,577 people continue to be missing from the war of 1998-1999, while a total of 12,230 victims of that war have been documented.
