The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, met in New York with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in the framework of the activities of the General Assembly of the United Nations. The meeting was also confirmed by the Turkish Presidency.
According to Kurti, one of the topics of discussion was the recent verdict of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague against the former leaders of the KLA, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, who were sentenced to 81 years in prison in total.
Kurti described the decision as “legally and morally unjust” and “historically and factually incorrect”, saying that these issues should be corrected in the Appeal procedure.
In the meeting, Kurti thanked Erdogan for Turkey’s continuous support to Kosovo, especially in diplomacy, military strengthening and cooperation in the defense industry, as well as support for Kosovo’s membership in NATO.
According to the prime minister, economic relations between Kosovo and Turkey have expanded and trade between the two countries has reached about 1 billion dollars, while Turkish investments in Kosovo have also increased.
At the end of the meeting, the Prime Minister of Kosovo announced that he has invited President Erdogan for a visit to Kosovo.
