Thousands of citizens have gathered this Sunday in “Skënderbeu” square in Pristina, holding the fifth night of protests against the decision of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague.
The protests started on September 16, after the announcement of the verdict against former president Hashim Thaçi, former parliamentarians Kadri Veseli and Jakup Krasniqi, as well as former deputy Rexhep Selimi, who were convicted of war crimes.
Thousands of citizens gathered again in “Skënderbeu” square, unfurling a large national flag with the emblem of the Kosovo Liberation Army and holding placards with inscriptions “Not in my name”, “There is no peace without justice” and “Freedom has a name”.
Among the protesters are the family members of the former leaders of the KLA, including the sons of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selim and Jakup Krasniqi.
The organizer of the protest, Çlirim Haziri, has asked the Government of Kosovo to increase the financial support for the defense of the former leaders of the KLA in the judicial proceedings in The Hague.
“We ask the Government of Kosovo to strengthen the financial support for the protection of the leaders of the KLA,” he declared before the crowd.
The protests, which started immediately after the announcement of the verdict, are continuing every night in the capital, turning “Skënderbeu” square into the epicenter of the citizen reaction against the decision of the Special.
