The chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, said that the decision of the Special Court to sentence the four former leaders of the KLA to 81 years in prison damages the history, present and future of the country.
After a party meeting, Hamza announced that he will request meetings with all the leaders of the political subjects for the next steps, warning that in the Assembly legal initiatives can be taken against the Special Court, but for this he needs the support of other parties.
“I will meet with all the leaders of political subjects because this is no longer a matter that belongs to a political subject. They did not go there as members of any political subject but as former superiors of the Kosovo Liberation Army. I believe in cooperation with other political subjects, in creating a necessary consensus and we as PDK will come up with concrete actions including legal and democratic ones. If it comes and can come the legal initiative in the Assembly of Kosovo normally we have need for the support of other political entities. The PDK has the signatures ready, depending on the needs we will proceed”, he said.
Asking for cooperation, but also prudence, the Minister of Industry, Mimoza Kusari-Lila emphasized that the decision against the former leaders of the KLA can be corrected on appeal.
“What happened yesterday has room and possibility to be corrected, but we must be united, with a clear plan and of course with high wisdom to plan the next step to bring deserved justice”, she said.
Kusari-Lila said that the decision of the court based in The Hague was not only difficult for the accused, but also for Kosovo and its struggle for freedom.
“The next step is the preparation, it is first the full support for the defense team, and of course also in terms of maintaining attention and communication with all the relevant actors, to come to the point where there will be an acquittal verdict for the four”, said the minister.
Former KLA leaders Thaçi, Veseli, Krasniqi and Selimi were sentenced to 81 years in prison by the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague, a decision that they have warned they will appeal.
