Dissensions in LDK over Bekim Sejdi’s candidacy, Kurti: The agreement remains valid, I will meet again with Abdixik

The head of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has stated that the agreement reached with the LDK on Bekim Sejdi’s candidacy for President remains valid, despite the fact that six deputies of the LDK did not support it.

After the meeting of the Vetëvendosje Parliamentary Group, Kurti said that the VV MPs have fully supported Sejdi’s candidacy.

According to him, the attitude of six LDK deputies constitutes a new situation, for which he will return to discussions with the chairman of this party, Lumir Abdixik.

“Well then we also had this negative announcement that six MPs out of 18 in the parliamentary group of the LDK do not support Professor Bekim Sejdiu for president of the Republic. This is a new situation, which requires that on the one hand I meet again with the chairman of the LDK and on the other hand I return to the leadership of the Vetëvendosje Movement to discuss the new situation and the way forward,” said Kurti.

He described the behavior of six LDK deputies as irresponsible and harmful, warning that such a situation could lead the country to new elections.

Kurti said that citizens have expressed their will in three sets of elections and that early elections should not be held again without a strong reason.

“Citizens also spoke on February 9, December 28, 2025, they also spoke on June 7, 2026. We should not go to early elections without reason, without need, again,” he said.

Kurti emphasized that Vetëvendosje has fulfilled its part of the agreement and that now further discussions are expected to take place with the LDK to find a solution.
