Kurti after the meeting with Abdixik: We discussed the criteria for the new President, the meeting was constructive

The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo and the chairman of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has given details after the meeting with the chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku. In front of the journalists, Kurti announced that the talks focused exclusively on the issue of electing a new head of state and harmonizing the criteria for the presidential figure.

According to him, the meeting took place in a positive spirit and with bilateral good faith, with the aim of the country avoiding early parliamentary elections.

Focusing on the criteria and values of the presidential figure

During the statement to the media, Kurti clarified that the parties have not yet discussed concrete names, but have focused on the profile and contribution that the candidate for the highest state post should carry.

“The meeting went in a constructive atmosphere and I saw the will of the LDK to bring to the country a new president who does not need new elections. We reviewed and discussed the criteria for the figure of the new president or president from many angles and on several levels, especially in terms of values, merits and contributions to society.” Kurti declared.

The head of the LVV underlined that after this first round, both delegations will return to their respective party structures for internal consultations before meeting again for the next steps.

Communication with other opposition entities

Asked about the possibility of involving other opposition parties in this process, Kurti pointed out that there have been different approaches from the heads of political subjects. He confirmed that the chairman of AAK refused the direct meeting, while a previous meeting was held with the chairman of PDK.

Despite this, he expressed his openness to continuing the dialogue with all political forces.

“Despite the refusals for physical meetings, we have developed communication. However, if there is any will on the part of PDK or AAK for meetings and agreements, I am more than ready. We want a meritorious, constitutional president who reflects the values of our society,” he concluded.
