Riots and administrative blockades during the efforts for the constitution of the Assembly of Kosovo have provoked harsh reactions from the ranks of the opposition. The deputy of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Vlora Çitaku, during a media conference after the dramatic developments in the session hall, warned that her party’s action will no longer be limited only within the parliamentary environment.
Civic mobilization and request for a new session
According to Çitak, the PDK will continue to demand the immediate functionalization of state institutions, sending an official request to the chairperson of the session, Avni Dehari, to call the works within two days.
“I want to inform you that we will again request a session after 48 hours and our activity will no longer be limited only within this institution, it will also be moved outside the assembly in broader forms of political, democratic and civic mobilization.”, said Citaku.
The PDK official underlined that their participation in the session is not a political “show”, but the fulfillment of the constitutional obligation to represent the will of the citizens.
Accusations of physical assault and the reaction to Albin Kurti
During her speech, Çitaku denounced the presence of security guards inside the hall, claiming that they violated the physical integrity of the opposition MPs. She announced that they will officially address the Kosovo Police Inspectorate (IPK) for this incident.
“Through the blockade, Albin Kurti is preventing us from exercising the mandate that the citizens have given us. This is not a suspension of the Assembly, this is a suspension of democracy.”she said.
