The Assembly of Kosovo is expected to hold the first plenary session on September 28, where, among other things, a joint statement of the Assembly is expected to be approved regarding the opposition to the sentences against the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army by the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague.
The head of the Parliamentary Group of the PDK, Arian Tahiri, after the meeting of the Presidency of the Assembly, announced that the initiative to change the Law on Specialized Chambers has already been sent to the Government of Kosovo for consideration.
According to him, citizen pressure should now be directed by the Government to quickly return the law to the Assembly for approval.
“This is an emergency situation and requires institutional responsibility. Citizens with full rights have demands addressed to the Assembly and the Government. Act, coordinate, organize and respond to this historical injustice institutionally through the appropriate means and forms. I was here to alert the situation, to turn the focus to this injustice. Very correctly, on behalf of the PDK, I requested that the Assembly first have a joint statement. We agreed to have a joint statement that will be held on Monday. More important than the declaration is the bill, the legal initiative that we have already submitted to the Parliament and from here it has gone to the Government for consideration, he said.
He said that Speaker Albulena Haxhiu promised to communicate with Prime Minister Albin Kurti to speed up the procedures in the Government to approve the new law on the Special, reports KosovaPress
“Mrs. Haxhiu promised that today she will talk to CM Albin Kurti to speed up the procedures in the Government. It should not take 30 days, as the regulation provides, but one day, for the experts to gather, give their opinion, return to the Assembly and the law can be voted on Monday or Tuesday, if there is political will”, Tahiri emphasized.
He also mentioned the silence of the Minister of Justice, Donika Gërvalla, regarding the conviction of the former leaders of the KLA by the Special Court.
“It is very low and dishonest for the Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, the Minister of Justice, to compare September 16 with daily topics or events. No, there was no normality as long as there were no concrete actions against this injustice, even institutional. The citizens of Kosovo have not left me with normality. Let her forget the approach as if nothing happened and behave normally. It is very dishonest, low and shameful for this scandalous statement that has given”, he said.
Asked about the issue of the president, Tahiri said that this is not a topic at the moment, despite the fact that by October 6 the country’s first president must be elected or new elections will be held.
“Currently, the issue of the president is not a topic. I consider that September 16, the law on Specialized Chambers, the injustice that happened in this country should not be related to political topics. Political topics have space and should be discussed. This is a new situation and in this situation everyone should come together. Definitely, we should jointly build a political, concrete institutional platform to support the quartet that is being unjustly held in The Hague”, concluded Tahiri.
