The political stalemate in Kosovo continues while the parliamentary parties have not yet reached an agreement on the constitution of new institutions. Acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has again called on political leaders to find a solution and avoid new elections.
“We are in communication and we will try every day to reach a political agreement, in order to avoid unnecessary and unreasonable elections, because they will only be repeated. I call once again to the leaders of other parties to discuss and come to an agreement, because the citizens do not want elections, but a solution, and the solution is a political agreement”. Kurti said on Monday.
The constitutive session of the Assembly was interrupted again on Saturday, after Kurti requested additional time for the proposal of the candidate for the Speaker of the Assembly. He argued that the request is related to the lack of an agreement between the political parties and the intention to avoid another election process.
The situation became tense in the hall, after the deputy of the Alliance, Time Kadrijaj, threw eggs at Kurti, while the intervention of the security of the Assembly was then requested.
In the June 7 elections, Vetëvendosje received 53 mandates, PDK 22, LDK 18 and Alliance 7, but neither party has yet secured a political solution.
Meanwhile, during the ninth Conference of Kosovo Ambassadors, Kurti also spoke about the security situation in the region, accusing Serbia of expanding its military capacities.
According to Kurti, this strengthening is not only the modernization of the army, but part of a wider political and diplomatic strategy related to, as he put it, Serbia’s “hegemonic aims” towards the region and especially Kosovo.
