The constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo is expected to continue today (August 8) at 11:00, despite the political clash and the end of the 30-day deadline set by the Constitutional Court. The session is expected to continue with the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Assembly.
The chairman of the constitutive session, Avni Dehari, has decided that the deputies will meet on Saturday morning, since the session started on Thursday remained unfinished.
The session was interrupted on Thursday, when Dehari decided to postpone the continuation for an indefinite time, after the request of the acting prime minister and the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, for more time for the development of political talks.
Kurti and the chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, have held meetings in an effort to find a political agreement that would pave the way for the formation of new institutions and overcoming the political deadlock.
However, even the last meeting between them did not bring any concrete agreement. A few hours later, Dehari announced that the continuation of the session will be held on Saturday at 11:00.
The opposition requested a session before midnight
The decision to postpone the session was opposed by the three opposition parties, PDK, LDK and AAK. They have requested that the deputies meet on Friday evening, before the end of the 30-day deadline set by the Constitutional Court.
Deputies of PDK, LDK and AAK declared that they appeared in the premises of the Assembly on Friday evening, demanding that the session continue before midnight.
However, according to them, the hall where the constitutive session takes place was not opened and the continuation of the meeting was not possible.
The deputy of AAK, Besnik Tahiri, stated that the opposition had forwarded the request in time to the chairman of the session, Avni Dehari, and to the administration of the Assembly. He said that not holding the session within the deadline constitutes a violation of the constitutional order.
Even the chairman of PDK, Bedri Hamza, criticized the decision to postpone the session. He said that the deputies of his party had stayed in the Assembly to prove their willingness to participate in the session.
The LDK was on the same line. The vice president of this party, Lutfi Haziri, said that the parliamentary group had requested that the session be held before the end of the constitutional deadline.
