Meeting with Albin Kurti, Abdixiku: We are far from an agreement, the Assembly must be constituted today

The chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, declared on Friday after the meeting with the acting prime minister, Albin Kurti, that the parties remain far from a political agreement and that there is no reason for delaying the constitution of the Assembly.

Today there should be a session and the Assembly should be constituted. We should not get into constitutional ambiguity“, stressed Abdixhiku, underlining that the country is on the limits of the constitutional deadline.

According to him, the responsibility for ensuring the normal course of institutions belongs to the first party, the Vetëvendosje Movement. He added that the longer the process is delayed, the less likely it is to reach an agreement.

“The more we delay, of course the agreement becomes less possible. I have no new news, but I can tell you that we are very, very, very far from any eventual agreement and I don’t expect it to change without changing the political positions of the political parties”, declared Abdixiku.

He emphasized that the LDK considers it necessary to preserve the institutional balance, without which there can be no stable political agreement. According to him, if the positions remain the same as in December, then the conclusion will be the same.

Abdixhiku said that the LDK entered the process with the will to find a solution, but warned that exceeding the constitutional deadlines could lead the country to new elections.

My goal and that of LDK has been to find a solution. So let’s not worry about who is beating whom, who is deceiving whom, who is delaying whom. The point is to give the Republic of Kosovo and our citizens new institutions, but at this point, with great regret, I am saying that we are practically on a path that does not choose, does not provide long-term solutions“, he underlined.

The main obstacle, according to the chairman of the LDK, remains the issue of the president. He emphasized that the LDK demands that the proposal for president come from his party, while the names are discussed with the partner.

LDK has requested that the president be proposed by the Democratic League of Kosovo, of course the names should be discussed with our partner. And on this point we did not have an agreement.

Once again, the position or offer of December, which you already know clearly, that the LDK will take not only the Speaker of the Assembly, but the Deputy Prime Minister and several ministers, does not stand, it is not sufficient, it is not dignified to provide a solution to the crisis we are in now.

Therefore, we cannot treat it seriously, we cannot accept it as such. If you want LDK in government, in institutions, then LDK must be represented“, Abdixhiku declared.

He added that the post of prime minister belongs to the first party, in accordance with the will of the citizens. According to him, if an agreement is reached that the proposal for president comes from the LDK, then the name can be determined together with the LVV.
