The Galicnik Wedding, the most unique wedding tradition of the Balkans, which is held every year in the mountain village of Galichnik in the west of North Macedonia and has a history dating back hundreds of years, witnessed colorful scenes this year as well.
The Galicnik Wedding, the most unique wedding tradition of the Balkans, held in the historical village of Galichnik, approximately 110 kilometers away from Skopje, is among the most important cultural heritages of the country.
Many visitors from different regions of North Macedonia and abroad witnessed this special ceremony, where the bride and groom got married according to traditional customs.
The ceremony was also attended by North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, Mavrovo and Rostuse Mayor Oner Jakuposki and representatives of different institutions and organizations.
The events last three days
The event, which started on July 10 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism under the auspices of the Presidency of North Macedonia, will end today.
This year, the wedding of Aleksandar Pendaroski and Martina Mihaylova started with the accompaniment of traditional drums and flutes.
After the groom was shaved in the village square, his relatives gathered in the village square and formed the wedding procession. The procession, proceeding through the village streets in colorful costumes, arrived at the bride’s house amidst the historical stone houses with the sounds of drums and horns.
A religious wedding ceremony was also held for Aleksandar and Martina at the church in the village.
At the traditional wedding held in the village square, folk dances were watched with interest by the guests.
The traditional wedding ceremony, which has been going on for centuries, started to be held as a festival in 1963.
