The chairman of the Vetëvendosje Movement and the acting prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, held this Friday afternoon, July 10, the meeting with the head of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, regarding the constitution of the Assembly, the election of the speaker of the Parliament, the formation of the new government and, subsequently, the election of the president of Kosovo.
After the meeting, Kurti said that the talks took place in a constructive atmosphere, but without yet reaching a concrete agreement to unblock the political situation in the country. Kurti said that the discussions focused on political developments, the constitution of new institutions and the election of the president, stressing that so far there is no final conclusion.
“The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere, where we discussed many issues of political developments, institutional dynamics and at the same time the schedule that awaits us before the constitution of the institutions resulting from the elections. We discussed all this, but we still do not have any conclusions or achievements that we can share with you. I am optimistic about the way forward and I believe that rationality will continue to prevail in future meetings,” said Kurti.
Kurti also focused on the election of the next president of Kosovo, stressing that the head of state should be a consensual figure who represents the unity of the citizens.
“We believe that the spirit and letter of the Constitution is for the president to be a representative of the unity of the people and, in this sense, it should be consensual. The focus has not been on specific names, but on the concept of progress and forward vision,” he said.
On the other hand, the chairman of LDK, Lumir Abdixiku, confirmed that the parties have agreed to continue communication to avoid new elections.
“We talked about the necessary institutional stability in the Republic of Kosovo and the necessary avoidance of future elections. At this stage we agreed to continue communication, as the only way to avoid extraordinary elections in the country”, said Abdixhiku.
Abdixiku added that during the meeting the principles on which political cooperation can be built were discussed, stressing that LDK requires stable institutions and a democratic balance between political forces.
