Political discussions on the constitution of new institutions continue in Kosovo after the parliamentary elections. The leaders of the parties have started a series of meetings and consultations with the aim of finding an agreement on the creation of the Assembly and the continuation of the institutional process.
So far, the talks have taken place in a climate of dialogue, but have not yet produced a final agreement. Although the Vetëvendosje movement has enough votes to form the government, the biggest challenge of this process remains the election of the new head of state.
To succeed, the head of the executive requires all political forces to come together around a name acceptable to all.
“Our starting point is a consensual figure, someone who is not part of any party and who represents unity”, declared Kurti after the first meetings.
Meanwhile, the opposition has set its conditions for possible support, which mainly include strategic energy and economic projects. Political experts in Kosovo have called for prudence and a quick agreement, as failure would lead the country to new harmful elections.
The following days are expected to be decisive to see if the parties will avoid political entanglements or find the long-sought compromise.
