A young man was stabbed in the center of Košice, he died in hospital

The event was described by the candidate for the mayor of the Old Town of Košice, Igor Holéczy (PS), who points out that this is not an isolated incident at night, and calls for the city to start dealing with security in the center systematically.

According to him, there is talk of semi-organized groups of young people who, for example, choose a victim in a city park, coordinate via mobile phones and attack them.

Deník Korzár reported that police spokeswoman Jana Illésová confirmed that one person was detained shortly after the crime, but after completing the procedural steps, the investigators released her because the conditions for being taken into custody were not met. According to her, the police are continuing their actions aimed at clarifying the case, but due to the ongoing investigation, they are not yet releasing further details.

At the scene of the attack on Vrátná Street, the victim’s family lit candles.

This is not an isolated incident

The Korzár newspaper drew attention to the growing tension in the center of Košice earlier when it described a group of attackers purposefully provoking fights. After provoking a conflict, according to the testimony, the victim is beaten and disappears. One of these cases took place in a city park near the railway station, where a twenty-year-old man was attacked. At that time, the police recorded two similar incidents.

Košice guide Igor Kupec compared the situation to the wild nineties for the daily Korzár. “I have the feeling that nothing like this has happened here since the nineties,” he says, adding that the tragedy should be a warning signal for the city to pay more attention to order and security in the historic center.
