Europe is experiencing the warmest days in the history of measurements

In France, for the second day in a row, they experienced the hottest day in the history of measurements since 1947. According to Météo-France, the average daily temperature reached 30 °C, breaking the record set on Tuesday, which was 29.9 °C.

The highest temperature was measured in Palluau on Wednesday, where it was 43.8 °C. The temperature rose above 40 °C even in Paris, at the Montsouris station for the first time since 1873.

France also recorded the warmest night in history. From Wednesday to Thursday, the minimum at 30 reference stations was 22 °C on average.

High temperatures in France also caused power outages in Brittany in the west of the country, leaving tens of thousands of households without power due to the heat. The power outage in the French Quimper, the capital of the Brittany department of Finistère, was announced for the first time already on Tuesday evening and affected almost 120,000 customers. Approximately 68,000 households were left without electricity due to a transformer failure caused by high temperatures.

In Great Britain, they recorded the highest June temperature in history, when it was 36.1 °C at Gosport station in the south of England, the original record was 35.6 °C. It was also a record warm night in England. Temperatures did not drop below 20 °C and in Cardiff they even recorded the highest June minimum in the history of measurements (23.5 °C).

In Spain, according to the AEMET weather service, the warmest June day since the beginning of measurements in 1950 was recorded on Tuesday. Monday was the second warmest day in history. Absolute records were broken on some stations. In Cantabria, it was 43.7 °C at the Tama station, which is a new record for the entire region. Nighttime lows were also record high in many places.

Monthly records and temperatures above 35 °C were also set, for example, in Switzerland or Germany. Temperatures should be very high in the following days as well, and it is possible that even absolute records will be broken. In Great Britain it is even likely. It should also be above 40 °C at the weekend in Germany and the Czech Republic, where the warmest air will begin to move.
