“Blue-yellow flag on Kinburn spit. Due to heavy fire, the Southern Defense Forces forced the occupiers to retreat from the occupied positions, the evacuation of the surviving soldiers is underway, the occupiers are leaving their defense lines,” the defense forces wrote on Facebook.
According to the Unian agency, Ukrainian partisans from the Ateš group had previously informed about the retreat of the Russians. They let it be known that the unit of the 337th regiment of the Russian Federation is leaving its positions due to a lack of ammunition, fuel and food.
The agency spoke with the spokesman of the Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Vološin, according to whom the Russians are facing major logistical problems on the Kinburn spit due to attacks by Ukrainian drones. “However, it is premature to claim that they have already left this point of support,” the agency stated.
The Russians have been occupying the Kinburn Spit, which is located in the Mykolaiv Region, in the west of the Kinburn Peninsula, since the beginning of 2022. They occupied it shortly after the start of their full-scale invasion.
Positions on the Kinburn spit allow the Russians to shell the Ukrainian mainland ports of Mykolayiv and Ochakiv. He also attacks Kherson from here. Thanks to this, they also control the mouths of the Dnieper and South Bug rivers, so Ukrainian ships cannot safely sail to the Black Sea.
