The acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has announced that immediately after the certification of the results of the June elections, consultations will begin for the constitution of the country’s new institutions, including the Assembly, the Government and the election of the president.
During the Government meeting, Kurti said that the election results have clearly confirmed the will of the citizens, stressing that this will must be reflected in functional and effective institutions.
He assessed that the country did not need new elections, but underlined that it is now important that the result of the citizens’ vote be respected and transformed into democratic institutions that will work for economic development, social welfare, education, health, security and infrastructure projects.
Kurti also stopped at the arrest of five former members of the Serbian police, suspected of involvement in the massacre of Recak. He congratulated the institutions responsible for this action, stressing that the arrests came after a six-month investigation.
According to him, for more than two decades there has been a lack of proper prosecution of those responsible for this crime, while he emphasized that in the cases inherited by UNMIK there was no case related to the massacre of Recak.
The acting prime minister called for the acceleration of war crimes investigations and trials, warning that the passage of time is making it difficult to secure evidence and witnesses.
