On September 24, 2023, the north of Kosovo was engulfed by one of the worst post-war attacks. In Banjska of Zveçan, an armed group of Serbs attacked a Kosovo Police patrol, killing officer Afrim Bunjaku and injuring two others. During the clashes near the Banjska Monastery, three Serbs, part of the armed group, were also killed.
On the third anniversary of the event, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, once again described Banjska as a terrorist attack and demanded that the organizer Milan Radoicic and the other accused face justice in Pristina. Kurti also raised this issue during the meetings in New York, where he asked for the support of the European Union to put pressure on Belgrade.
“The paramilitary terrorist group organized, directed and financed from Belgrade, which was headed by the master criminal Milan Radoicic, failed in the insidious attack aimed at armed conflict and bloodshed and the annexation of the north of Kosovo. We will never give up until all of them have received the deserved punishment. Kosovo has won over aggression and crime. The hero over the terrorists,” writes Kurti.
Even foreign embassies in Pristina joined Kosovo in honoring officer Afrim Bunjaku. “We repeat the call for the perpetrators to be brought to justice” – the post of the US embassy says. “Accountability remains essential.
Those responsible, including Milan Radoicic, have not yet faced justice” – writes the British embassy. Despite the fact that INTERPOL has declared the former vice-president of the Serbian List wanted internationally, he continues to be free in Serbia. Meanwhile, in April of this year, the Basic Court in Pristina sentenced three accused for the Banjska attack, two of them to life imprisonment and one to 30 years in prison. In honor of the Hero of Kosovo, Afrim Bunjaku, in the village of Banjské in Zveçan, an obelisk dedicated to his work will be erected.
