Zelensky is not an angel, he also bears part of the blame for the war, Trump said

Trump made his statement in an interview with Fox News. “He (Zelenskyj) should not have allowed it to happen. There is no angel,” said Trump.

According to Trump, Ukraine is fighting against a “much larger and much more powerful entity.” “He (Zelenskyj) should not have done it, because it was possible to conclude an agreement. But he said he wants to fight,” added the American president in an interview, which was also quoted by the Ukrainian server Kyiv Independent.

Russia occupied part of the territory of Ukraine in 2014, then launched an invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and already claims part of its territory as its own. Moscow justified the aggression in various ways, for example by protecting the Russian-speaking population, alleged concerns about the expansion of NATO, or claims about a fascist regime. Russia sets various conditions for peace negotiations, including those that would weaken Ukrainian security. Kyiv rejects this.

“Complete bullshit.” Ukrainians react to Russian demands for peace

The attacked country is defending itself thanks to significant help from the USA. “We started providing them with weapons and they (Ukrainians) found the courage to use them. But it’s a war that needs to be settled,” Trump continued.

He spoke with appreciation about the bravery of Ukrainians in their resistance against Russia. At the same time, he expressed the opinion that the Ukrainian president “has had enough” and that he is ready to make peace.

Trump also criticized Putin when he said that Russia had “already lost 850,000 soldiers” in the war against Ukraine. “Putin shouldn’t have done that, it has to stop,” said the head of the White House.

Trump: I love the Russians, but if the war is not resolved quickly, I will impose high tariffs on Russia

He repeated his earlier warning that if Moscow did not agree to peace talks, it would impose “massive tariffs and major sanctions” on Russia. However, according to Trump, he does not want to do it because – as he added – he “likes” Russia.

Trump, who in the past criticized large-scale American aid defending the country, promised in the election campaign that he would end the conflict within 24 hours of returning to the White House, which did not happen. A few days before Monday’s inauguration, he admitted that peace negotiations could take months.
