“We are constantly under stress.” The Romanian village is plagued by Russian attacks

“Every night we are under stress so that nothing happens in the village. Tonight (from Monday to Tuesday, note red.) it could be heard very close. Houses were shaking, everything. I think it was catastrophic in Ukraine,” Ion, a man from the village of Grindu, testified according to the Radu station. “In the three years I’ve been here, there have been about seven or eight such strong explosions,” he added.

Others said that they had become accustomed to the sounds of war and that the only place they could hide was their own homes. But not in the basement, which they cannot build because of the groundwater.

“We can’t do anything. You can’t build cellars here because the water is on the surface. If you want to build a cellar, you’ll run into water. During the first attacks, there was more anxiety and fear. But then you get used to the fact that we can’t do anything when the Russians want Ukraine,” said Vasile Gheorghe.

On Tuesday night, the Russian army powerfully struck the Ukrainian port infrastructure in the cities of Izmail and Reni, which are located just a few hundred meters across the Danube River from Romania. In the Romanian county of Tulcea, the local authorities raised the alarm because of this, and later the local police and firefighters discovered a Russian drone that landed in the village of Grindu.

Russian drones regularly fall into Romania, especially in connection with the attacks on Izmail. The most affected of all is the village of Plauru, which is located near Grind and the town of Tulcea. Several Russian drones fell there, and even here local residents are afraid of attacks and drive to nearby villages at night. In addition, the Romanian army built two anti-aircraft shelters in this village.
