Václav Neužil and Stanislav Majer: In Pobert we will offer a Slovak western

“I also like what director Ondřej Hudeček says about the film, and that it is a love letter to gangster comedies,” Majer added, adding that love is an important theme of the film. “Definitely,” added Neužil.

They also agreed that in addition to emotions, the time when it takes place is also important in comedy, i.e. in covid times. “Poberta is also interesting because it is full of anti-heroes,” stated Majer.

The film will enter Czech cinemas almost exactly on the day (six years) since the first state of emergency was declared in the Czech Republic. It was filmed in 2024. In addition to Neužil and Majer, Matyáš Řezníček, aka the thief Lupyn, and Denisa Barešová (Tamara), his sweetheart, will appear in the main roles.

The director set the comedy in his native South Moravian Strážnice, where two of the actors and the director’s childhood friends Lukáš Příkazký and Petr Borovec come from. They were one of the few completely proficient in the Slovakian dialect, which is inaudible in Strážnice and which is spoken in the film.

For this reason, the actors intentionally spent a few days in an authentic environment with local residents before filming. Some of them were cast by the director based on extensive recruitment of extras for minor roles.
