Ursula von der Leyen in Kosovo, European integration at the center of meetings with Haxhiu and Kurti

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is conducting an official visit to Kosovo today as part of her tour in the countries of the Western Balkans.

During his stay in Pristina, von der Leyen was first received by the Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, and then held a meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

After the meeting with the head of the Kosovar government, a joint press conference has been announced.

The focus of the visit is on Kosovo’s further steps in the process of integration towards the European Union, as well as the benefits from the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, an EU initiative that aims to accelerate the economic and institutional rapprochement of the countries of the region with the Union.

von der Leyen’s visit to Kosovo is part of her sixth tour of the Western Balkans. After the stop in Pristina, the president of the European Commission will continue her visits to other countries in the region, including Montenegro and North Macedonia.

During her visits to the region, von der Leyen has reiterated the European Union’s support for the enlargement process, emphasizing the importance of reforms and alignment with European standards on the way to membership.
