Two trains collided north of London, one dead and dozens injured

From the videos and photos on social networks, it is clear that one train apparently rammed into the other from behind, leaving both sets standing on the tracks. Rescuers intervened on the spot, including the air ambulance service.

Passenger Peter Knapp told the BBC that he was sitting in the front carriage of the train which collided with another. He described feeling like a bomb had exploded next to him. “When I got up, I saw people’s faces covered in blood, their legs looked broken, and there was smoke everywhere,” Knapp said. “Some people were spitting blood,” he added.

The Times wrote that the staff of the hospital in Bedford was warned to prepare to receive up to 50 injured.

British Transport Minister Heidi Alexander said in a post on the X network that she was deeply concerned by the reports of the train collision.

The railway carrier East Midlands Railway has announced that it will not be able to provide connections to and from London for the rest of the day.
