Trump wants to ease sanctions on Russia

Trump made it known on Tuesday night that if Iran “takes any steps to stop the flow of oil in the Strait of Hormuz, the US will hit it TWENTY TIMES HARDER” than it has been so far. At the same time, Iran is already blocking this strait, some ships do not even try to enter it and prefer to anchor further away. On Sunday, however, a Greek tanker loaded with a million tons of oil passed through it.

According to the Reuters agency, due to the severe restriction of traffic in this strait, Trump is considering easing sanctions against Russia. At the end of last October, the USA imposed sanctions on the two largest Russian oil companies, Rosneft and Lukoil. However, it is not clear whether the relaxation of sanctions would concern them.

Citing sources, the agency said discussions “could include a broad easing of sanctions as well as more targeted options that would allow certain countries, such as India, to buy Russian oil without fear of US sanctions.” At the same time, the US already last week allowed India to temporarily buy Russian oil, which is already heading to the country.

Trump spoke on the phone with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on Monday. News about the possible relaxation of sanctions came precisely in connection with this call. The British newspaper The Guardian reported that Trump told the media after the phone call: “We have sanctions against some countries. We will lift those sanctions until the strait is opened.” However, the newspaper pointed out that Trump refused to specify which countries he had in mind.

However, the Russian state agency TASS also brought the information, according to which Trump said that the US will cancel part of its sanctions against the oil industry of other countries and “probably will not renew them.” She also mentioned the words of Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriyev, who previously announced that Moscow and Washington are discussing the possible easing of sanctions against Russian oil.

The USA, together with Israel, attacked Iran on Saturday, February 28. Since then, there have been concerns about oil prices, which on Monday rose above the psychological threshold of $100 per barrel. For a while, they even jumped to 120 dollars. Later, they again fell below the hundred-dollar mark.

The Brussels newspaper Politico stated that Putin is the biggest winner of the war, because thanks to this, Russia will export more oil. From the collected money, Moscow finances its war against Ukraine.
