The suspects were detained in Oslo and the police there are now investigating the motive for the attack, police prosecutor Christian Hatlo said at a press conference.
“We are still working on several hypotheses. One of them is that it could be an order from a government entity. Considering the target, which was the American embassy, and the current security situation in the world, it is quite natural,” said Hatlo.
The Norwegian security service PST has long termed Iran as one of the biggest threats facing the Nordic country, and warns that it could use intermediaries to commit crimes on Norwegian territory, writes The Guardian. The risk of similar actions increased even more after the beginning of the American-Israeli attacks on Iran.
All three suspects are between twenty and thirty years old, and the police had no previous experience with them.
“We believe that one of them placed the bomb in front of the embassy and the other two were accomplices,” Hatlo described, while not ruling out that the act could also be connected to criminal organizations.
