Thousands of citizens in Skopje, in North Macedonia, most of them students and academic staff, are holding another protest demanding the holding of exams in the Albanian language.
With placards in their hands, the protesters started marching towards the Ministry of Justice, demanding the resignation of the Minister of Justice. One of the main demands of the students is that the exams be organized and conducted in the Albanian language.
Students and citizens from Kosovo and Albania also joined the protest.
This Monday’s protest comes after the one held at the beginning of April by the Albanian students of North Macedonia, who demanded respect for the law on languages in the conduct of the jurisprudence exam that continued to be held in the Macedonian language, despite the official status of the Albanian language in the country.
According to the students, holding the jurisprudence exam in the Macedonian language, which is necessary for exercising professions as a lawyer, judge or prosecutor, creates difficulties for Albanian candidates, and inequality as it affects the representation of Albanians in the country’s judicial system.
