Uncertainty about the place where the opening ceremony of the “Prishtina 2030” Mediterranean Games will take place continues to be a topic of discussion. Recently, some sports connoisseurs have mentioned the possibility that, due to the lack of a national stadium in Pristina, the opening ceremony will be organized at the “Adem Jashari” stadium in Mitrovica.
However, the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, has categorically opposed such an idea, insisting that the capital should host the opening ceremony.
Asked by KosovaPress, Rama said that the project is called “Prishtina 2030” and that the vast majority of the competitions will take place in the capital, therefore the opening ceremony should be held there.
“No, absolutely not. Prishtina is the host of the Mediterranean Games and the opening should be held in the capital. This is the ‘Prishtina 2030’ project and more than 60% of the games will be held in the capital. This was also the proposal that came from the analysis of professionals, together with the Olympic Committee. Therefore, we must not politicize these things. We must overcome these egos and political divisions, come together to be the best hosts, so the opening should take place in Pristina anyway,” said Rama.
On the other hand, the president of the Olympic Committee of Kosovo, Ismet Krasniqi, clarified that decisions on such issues are not made by individuals or special institutions, but by the Organizing Committee of the Mediterranean Games.
According to him, any idea or proposal can be considered, but the decision-making belongs exclusively to the Organizing Committee, while then the matter is also processed in the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games.
“Every decision made for the Mediterranean Games comes from the Organizing Committee. All other ideas can only be proposals, which, if they are good, we as the Organizing Committee can consider. However, the final decisions are taken by the Organizing Committee; we decide here and then send them to the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), where the final decision is made. So, every decision is made in the OCMG. From now on, you as a journalist will know”, emphasized Krasniqi.
The Mediterranean Games “Prishtina 2030” will be the largest sports event ever organized in Kosovo, while the issue of sports infrastructure and the opening ceremony is expected to remain part of the discussions in the coming years, until the finalization of all preparations for the organization of this event. /Kosovapress
