“The attack drones posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic,” the command wrote on the X social network. “U.S. forces subsequently struck Iranian coastal radar sites in Goruk and Keshm Island to prevent further attacks at sea,” it added.
The command also stated that Iran fired seven ballistic missiles at Kuwait and Bahrain. “The initial assessment indicates that six missiles fired by Iran were intercepted and the seventh missed its intended target,” it added.
A fragile truce has been in effect between Washington and Tehran since April 8, which both sides violate with occasional attacks while they try to agree on a memorandum of understanding. This would extend the current ceasefire and should also outline a solution to the issue of Iran’s nuclear program.
The US and Israel started a war against Iran on February 28, citing security concerns and an effort to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. Iran responded with attacks on Gulf states and US bases in the region and also blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a key sea route for transporting oil and liquefied natural gas.
