“The Ukrainian Navy destroyed an enemy Kamov Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopter that was flying over the Black Sea,” the Ukrainian military said, according to Unian.
In recent days, Ukrainian forces have also struck against Russian positions in the occupied Crimea and part of the Donetsk region. They destroyed the S-400 anti-aircraft defense system in Orlovka, three fuel and lubricant warehouses – one in Mariupol and two in Novoamvrosiivsk – and a warehouse with military equipment in Amvrosiivka.
On Monday, according to the Unian agency, the Ukrainian secret service SBU together with members of the special forces destroyed the Russian minesweeper Valentin Pikul. At the same time, the anti-submarine ships Jejsk and Kasimov suffered serious damage. Later, it also became clear that the Russian frigate Admiral Essen, which functions, among other things, as a Kalibr cruise missile carrier, was damaged during an attack by Ukrainian drones on the Novorossiysk Bay.
The Ka-27 is a Soviet naval anti-submarine helicopter with coaxial rotors. It is designed to detect, track and destroy submarines operating at depths of up to 500 meters.
The primary anti-submarine equipment is the Oktopus search and targeting system, which includes, among other things, hydroacoustic equipment and radar.
The helicopter can carry anti-ship missiles, small torpedoes and guided bombs designed to destroy vessels and coastal structures.
