With an agreement with the Greek company DEPA, Naftohaz is trying to ensure enough gas for the winter season at a time when the Ukrainian energy infrastructure faces ongoing Russian attacks.
The agreement covers the period from December this year to March next year. The companies said in a joint statement that the agreement represents “a key step to strengthen regional energy cooperation and European energy security,” AFP writes.
Zelenskyi said that the approaching winter represents a huge challenge for the Ukrainian people. “Winter under Russian drones and missiles, under daily attacks,” he added.
This month, Naftohaz also agreed on further supplies of American LNG through the Polish energy group Orlen. It started delivering American LNG to Ukraine this year.

The USA is the largest exporter of LNG in the world
The United States is now the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas in the world. In October, according to data from the financial company LSEG, it became the first country in the world to export ten million tons of LNG in a single month.
Europe remained the largest customer of American LNG in October, where more than two thirds of exports were directed. The import of LNG from the USA helped the European Union deal with shortfalls in Russian gas supplies after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
