The shooter who murdered ten people in a supermarket in Colorado was sentenced to life in prison

However, the jury found this man guilty of ten counts of first-degree murder, dozens of attempted murders, and various weapons offenses.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis said he was aware that “this sentence will not ease the pain many of us feel or bring back those who were killed.” However, he hopes that it will bring “a certain peace”.

At the same time, there was never any doubt that Alissa was the shooter, noted the Reuters agency. The case concerned his mental state at the time of the crime. In order for him to be declared incompetent, it would have to be shown that he was unable to distinguish between good and bad actions.

In March 2021, he shot two people in the parking lot in front of the supermarket and another eight in the store with a legally purchased pistol. The intervening policeman was among the victims. One of the witnesses testified that Alissa bragged about how much fun it was during the shooting.

Psychologists and psychiatrists who testified during the trial agreed that Alissa suffers from schizophrenia and is mentally ill. However, this does not mean that he would be unjust from a legal point of view.
