The oldest deputy of the Vetëvendosje Movement, who presided over the session for the constitution of the Assembly, announced its postponement for an indefinite time, following the request of the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, who asked for time to reach a political agreement with the Democratic League of Kosovo on the formation of new institutions, including the president. The party that won the June 7 elections did not propose any candidate for speaker, forcing Dehar to interrupt the session.
“The constitution does not make it right again, there is a division of the assembly and early elections again… that’s why we ask for additional time to give a chance to political talks for an agreement for a president or a new president”, said Kurti.
PDK and AAK accused Kurti’s party of trying to gain time for political bargaining. While LDK deputy Armend Zemaj warned of a constitutional crisis if the 30-day deadline for the constitution of the Assembly is exceeded, denying that his party was not aware of Kurti’s request to postpone the session.
“This is a sign of the lack of seriousness and responsibility from the party that won the largest number. Kosovo continues with a lack and institutional vacuum. This damages the country and affects the country’s perspective, but also the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo,” said Bedri Hamza, Chairman of PDK.
“The knot is not with the government, but with the president. This is the total irresponsibility of the party that won the elections. It is a short and Albanian tactic to take some political bargain, to buy time, in order to take three institutions that do not belong to one entity since it does not have the votes”, said Besnik Tahiri, MP of AAK.
“All the constitutional time is today according to my interpretation and judgement. If we enter another phase where there is no additional interpretation of the Constitution’s decision, I hope and believe that within today there may be some positive movement”, said Zemaj, LDK Deputy.
The differences between the LVV regarding the issue of the president were also warned earlier by the chairman of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku.
“There are many approaches in many issues, but we still have distance in the main issue, which is the democratic balance.”
If LVV does not reach a political agreement for the new head of state, Kosovo risks going to new elections and the political and institutional crisis will continue.
